An ideal geographical situation
St. Hippolyte-du-Fort is situated in the department of the Gard and is a beautiful gateway between the Cevennes mountains, fields and streams and the Mediterranean coastline. It enjoys all the benefits of a beautiful landscape, covered with vineyards and olive trees, with the scent of wild thyme, rosemary and lavender drowsing amid the deafening song of the cicadas.

What is there to visit
Within close reach are Nîmes, Montpellier, Arles and Uzès, with excellent shops and markets and many reminders of the noble heritage left by the Romans. Visits we would advise are: natural sites like the Cirque de Navacelles, the Grottes des Demoiselles, Pont du Gard, a huge bamboo forest, called la Bambouseraie, St. Guilhem le Désert, Sauve. The wild Cevennes mountains, an old fashioned steam train, Anduze's potteries and flea market, mediaeval stone villages, colourfull and fragrant markets. The coast at La Grande Motte can be reached in less than an hour.
